Social Studies Integration With Sherry Meidell
Greenville Elementary 4th graders created Native American Portraits with artist in residence, Sherry Meidell. Mrs. Meidell worked with the students for one week integrating art and social studies. Students created Native American watercolor portraits, marbleized feather paintings and animal watercolor paintings while learning about Utah's Native American tribes. The students artwork was reproduced and on display in side the Cache Valley Transit buses later this year as part of the Art in Transit program.
The mosaic project is a community art project that promotes arts in the community and brings art made by children into public places. Salt Lake City artist, Donna Pence visited Mountain Crest and South Cache 8-9 Center and worked with the students as they designed imagery for the benches. The students submitted their final designs and a panel selected the top 5. The five completed mosaic benches will be placed in downtown Logan later this year.
